NSWB was originally founded at the UVA School of Nursing in 1999 by several nursing students and community members. There are now at least nine chapters across the country including VCU, Ohio State and Purdue. In the past, NSWB has gone to El Salvador, Russia, and South Africa to provide community health classes and health screenings. The NSWB chapter at UVA is now focusing on raising money to fund a clinic in San Sebastian, El Salvador.
