Jeanette Lancaster Endowment Fund of Faculty Excellence

  • To support the School’s research and teaching mission and the professional development of nursing faculty. The funds available for distribution will be equally divided to support research and education.
  • Open to all faculty members of the School of Nursing who have completed the report from any previous award(s), have no carry-over funds and are not a senior administrator.
  • Funded by the Nursing Alumni Association.

Katharine M. Donohoe Clinical Research Award

  • To support clinical research projects in the School of Nursing
  • Eligible award recipients include graduate nursing students, nursing faculty, and partnerships between nursing faculty and/or graduate nursing students and nurse clinicians. Preference is given to partnerships, and in particular those partnerships that include clinicians at the UVA Medical Center. Non-tenure track faculty members, new investigators, and DNP students are encouraged to apply. Research projects should focus on clinical nursing research aimed toward testing clinical practices to improve patient care. Preference is given to projects that explore chronic health conditions.

Faculty Mentorship Award

  • To recognize and reward the extra efforts made by faculty members to support the development of junior faculty researchers.
  • The recipient of the faculty mentor award will be chosen by the tenure-track, junior faculty. Nominations and/or feedback may be solicited from other faculty if desired.
  • Funded by the Nursing Alumni Association.

Oscar and Ruth Lanford Research Award

  • To support research projects that meet the needs of chronically ill people regardless of their age.
  • Open to faculty members employed by the School of Nursing; more than one award may be given each year.

Susan McDonald Nursing Student Research Award

  • To provide a mentored experience in nursing research for an undergraduate student, working with a faculty member. The award is intended to promote a creative, new, and scholarly experience for the student and may be used to assist faculty with ongoing research.
  • Open to undergraduate students in the School of Nursing registered for undergraduate courses with the School of Nursing.

Nightingale Research Award

  • To provide summer support for tenure track, non-tenured faculty members employed by the School of Nursing.
  • Funded by the Nursing Alumni Association.

Outstanding Faculty Research Publication Award

  • To promote the School of Nursing research committee’s goal of increasing the number of faculty publications in top-tier journals.
  • Faculty members will be invited to submit one peer-reviewed, data-based research publication for consideration for this award. The faculty member must be first author of the publication. Only publications in print in 2017 will be eligible for the 2018 award. Criteria for evaluation of each publication include: scientific rigor of the research study, clarity of interpretation of findings, applicability of findings to nursing practice and quality of peer-reviewed journal.
