What is Box?

Box is an encrypted cloud saving service provided for all UVA faculty, staff, and students.

Why use Box?

In addition to Box providing a secure, encrypted cloud saving storage solution, users can collaborate and share documents and folders.

Every individual has 1TB of cloud saving space available (that’s A LOT of space).

Files and folders saved in Box can be accessed on computers and mobile devices from anywhere an internet connection is available.

Most all file types are supported.

How can I use Box for instruction?

Below are several ways to use Box, some of which have been successfully integrated by SON faculty.

  • For student projects and files that may be too large to turn in on Collab, Box is a secure and easy way for students to share with faculty and/or peers. All students have access to the platform and can create a sharable link for any file or folder.
  • Two or more individuals can collaborate on a document or file within Box through the sharing feature. This would prevent the need to email a document back and forth with each update.
  • For classes with physical demonstration requirements, consider having students record their practice, upload the video, and share with peers/instructors for feedback. This can enhance student achievement and does not require everyone to be together in the same location. Folders can be shared with specific individuals for access.
