The Virginia Board of Nursing requires that all nursing students have a background check completed when they enroll in a program in Virginia with clinical placement as required program component.  RN-BSN and PhD students are thus excluded from this criminal background check requirement.

Fieldprint, Inc. is a vendor the School of Nursing uses to complete electronic fingerprinting on our nursing students for the background check.

You will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to complete the background check from the SON Compliance Coordinators after you are up to date in SIS.  This contact will be from Ashley Lawson for prelicensure students (BSN and CNL) and Maria Murerwa for post-licensure students.

Graduate nursing students (CNL students excluded) will be charged a $35.72 cost for sending fingerprints to the Virginia State Police to be evaluated.

Sometimes a second fingerprinting will be required, and we will contact you with directions if this occurs.

Please note that it may take up to 14 days for results to be processed, so it is not recommended that you wait until the last minute.
